"Focus Ahead intermediate: "Unit 1: “Looks”. Appearance, personality. Verb phrases to do with clothes. Compound adjectives – appearance. Talking about a photo. A description of a person. Grammar: Dynamic and state verbs, Present Perfect Continuous, adjective order.
Unit 2: “Keep fit”. Sports, people in sport. Sport collocations; compound nouns – sport. Phrasal verbs. Asking for and giving an opinion; agreeing and disagreeing. A description of a past event. Grammar: Narrative tenses (Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect). Verb patterns.
Unit 3: “Going places”. Means of transport, collocations – travel, air travel, compound nouns, verb phrases, phrasal verbs – travel. Holiday experiences, asking for and giving advice. Grammar: Modal verb forms for present and past speculation, used to and would.

Unit 4: “Eat up”. Food: flavours and textures. Fish and vegetables. Describing food: antonyms, word families, collocations, phrasal verbs. A semi-formal e-mail. Grammar: Future time clauses, Future Continuous and Future Perfect, indirect questions.
Unit 5: “One world”. Geographical features. Natural disasters. Verb collocations; word families. The environment: compound nouns, adjective-noun collocations. Expressing and justifying an opinion. Grammar: articles: no article, a/an or the, non-defining relative clauses.
Unit 6: “Get well”. Parts of the body. Word families – injuries. Body idioms. Health issues. Grammar: Second conditional; wish/if only. Third conditional.
Unit 7: “In the spotlight”. Television, TV shows. Modifiers with base and extreme adjectives. Phrasal verbs. Asking for permission; making polite requests. Grammar: Reported speech -statements, questions and imperatives.
