L’analisi dei diversi periodi storici e delle principali opere letterarie è stata condotta utilizzando strategie didattiche innovative basate sul peer learning, sulla flipped classroom e sulla metodologia BYOD che hanno impegnato gli allievi in attività di gruppo o a coppie. Inoltre, sono state stimolate le abilità di note-taking degli studenti mediante l’uso di video didattici. Nei mesi di aprile e maggio 2023, la classe ha partecipato al progetto di ricerca “Fostering senior secondary school students’ awareness of Global Englishes through literature and storytelling” in cui, mediante l’esame di alcuni racconti di Chinua Achebe e di Nadine Gordimer, sono state analizzate alcune caratteristiche delle varietà linguistiche Nigerian English e South African English, con una particolare attenzione agli aspetti culturali locali e al valore della narrazione nella definizione dell’identità degli autori. Inoltre, i partecipanti hanno lavorato in gruppo scrivendo, a loro volta, un racconto in inglese sui temi che stanno loro più a cuore. Nell’ambito della ricerca, gli studenti hanno tenuto un diario in cui hanno sviluppato riflessioni guidate sui racconti letti in classe e sul proprio contributo all’attività di scrittura creativa. Infine, sono stati svolti approfondimenti sui seguenti argomenti: rapporto tra lingua, cultura e letteratura; diffusione dell’inglese attraverso il colonialismo britannico; ruolo dell’inglese come lingua franca.
